Crime Maps

In 2008 the Home Office decided that every police force in England and Wales would publish local crime information using interactive crime maps.

ISYS Systems Ltd. was approached to provide an on-line mapping system to support the Home Office initiative.

The ISYS Map JavaScript API and ISYS Map image handler service (components of the ASP.NET AJAX Mapping System) had the required functionality.

A requirement of the project was that the base mapping had to be built using Ordnance Survey MasterMap data. OS MasterMap is a very detailed, vector mapping data set that is ideal for building high quality street level mapping. However, one of the tasks ISYS had to perform was to generalise the OS MasterMap data so that it could also be used for the overview mapping. This involved significant pre-processing of the almost 500GB of vector data, thinning of the coordinates and extracting partial datasets based on feature type, length or area.

An important consideration in the development of the project was ISYS readiness to customise the ISYS Map JavaScript API to the exact requirements of the client.

Within 4 weeks from receipt of OS MasterMap data, ISYS was able to deliver an on-line mapping system with 12 levels of high quality raster mapping from 1:8,000,000 scale down to 1:4,000 scale with varying detail to suit each level.

British Airports Authority

British Airports Authority (BAA) operates a fleet in excess of 600 vehicles airside at Heathrow airport. These vehicles are used to provide services to BAA's airline customers bringing crews, fuel, food, baggage, freight etc. to and from aircraft. Airlines are billed for these services according to the length of time each vehicle is in attendance to each aircraft.

ISYS Systems was approached to provide a solution to help manage and track vehicle movements to and from aircraft stands. Using an Autocad drawing of Heathrow airport as a basis, ISYS constructed a map of Heathrow airport. From the map a geo-fence was created for each aircraft stand and a program module was created to compare vehicle locations against the geo fences. The output of the program is a report of which vehicles entered and exited each aircraft stand complete with the time of entry and exit.

National Express

National Express recently won a contract from British Airports Authority (BAA) to operate a fleet of crew buses airside at Gatwick Airport. In order to meet a service level agreement (SLA) National Express needed to log at which time each crew was delivered to each aircraft.

As ISYS Systems had already produced a solution for a similar task at Heathrow, ISYS was chosen to provide a solution for Gatwick. Using an Autocad drawing of Gatwick airport as a basis, ISYS constructed a map of Gatwick airport. From the map a geo-fence was created for each aircraft stand and a program module was created to compare the crew bus locations against the geo-fences. The output of the program is a report of which crew buses entered and exited each aircraft stand complete with the time of entry and exit.
