ISYS Systems Ltd. is a family run business based in the heart of the Cotswolds.
Established for over 15 years and located near Stow-On-The-Wold.
ISYS is a Research and Development led company which, has over the years, developed a
comprehensive suite of tools for working with and developing products from mapping
data from a wide range of suppliers and sources. Our unique ability to work from
base data principles enables us to quickly prototype, test and deliver new products
for use by our customers and their clients.
History
ISYS started out as ISYS Insurance Systems and made software tools for
the Insurance Industry. By carefully listening to the Insurers and analysing their
requirements, ISYS was able to produce a set of software tools that enabled insurance
underwriters to create data models for different types of insurance and to produce
insurance products from those data models using simple rule diagrams. ISYS products
were well received by it's Insurer customers and in 1993 a consortium of eight leading
British Insurers clubbed together to buy all Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) in ISYS
Insurance products.
This left ISYS in a good position financially, but with no products to sell. As the co-founders
of ISYS were both pilots and interested in all matters aeronautical they decided to produce a
product for pilots to use.
In 1993 ISYS developed a PC based flight planning and GPS moving map system for pilots called
Flight Navigator. Moving map systems had only ever been seen in military applications before,
so when ISYS introduced Flight Navigator in 1993, the product was eagerly snapped up by pilots.
In 1995 ISYS developed a PC based route planning product for motorists called Personal
Navigator. This went head to head with the Autoroute product that Microsoft had recently
acquired from another British company called Nextbase. For a few years Microsoft played
a game of catch up as ISYS introduced many new features for a consumer mapping product.
A few firsts for ISYS Personal Navigator were: GPS based moving map, Postcode and address
location, Point of interest (POI) information and location in the form of hotel and
restaurant guides, pub guides and petrol station locations.
In 1998, at the request of it's commercial customers, ISYS produced a version of
Personal Navigator with an application programming interface (API) called
FleetTracker. This, as the name suggests, was aimed at the emerging vehicle
tracking market.
In 2000 ISYS started to concentrate on supplying mapping tools and services for it's
growing commercial customer base.
In 2005, ISYS introduced an ASP.NET web-based mapping system.
In 2007, ISYS introduced an AJAX enabled ASP.NET smooth scrolling web-based mapping system.
Today, ISYS offers a wide range of custom mapping data related products and services.
